Kate Mulgrew Says She Wants a Voyager Film + Watch Her Discuss Her Role on Warehouse 13 [Video]

Kate Mulgrew, Terry Farrell, More Announced For Creation's Philladelphia-Area Star Trek Convention In April

During a recent interview, Kate Mulgrew, who played Captain Kathryn Janeway on Star Trek: Voyager, talked about being the first female in the starring role as a captain in a Star Trek series. Mulgrew also discussed the current direction the franchise has taken with JJ Abrams and crew at the helm along with her hopes for a Voyager film.

“My greatest thought was that we really must break the glass ceiling here in Star Trek. It’s not enough that I was the first female captain. There needs to be a continual push to open the door for women in positions of authority. In an absolutely equal way, of course. In talking to Bill I thought ‘This has been very much a boy’s club for a long, long time.’ I had the privilege and honor to be the first female, but that’s an establishment that needs now to be developed.” she said.

Shifting focus to the current state of the Star Trek franchise, Mulgrew talked about the possibility of characters from Voyager appearing in the rebooted film series.

“They’ve worked long and hard for the past few years on the prequel notion,” she noted. “but I think they should go on and develop what happens to the characters after Voyager landed — In a movie.”

Watch Mulgrew discuss her recent role on Warehouse 13 and her character in Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV from Dragon*Con in Atlanta last week, below.
