Viacom CEO Says JJ Abrams is Focused on Star Trek, Expects a 2013 Release

In news that will surprise almost no one who has been following recent developments, Phillippe Dauman, CEO of Viacom, mentioned during last week’s quarterly earnings call that J.J. Abrams is “focused on developing the next installment of our Star Trek franchise” which could hit theaters in 2013.

While the sequel to Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek was originally scheduled for a June 29, 2012 release, few still had hopes of that actually happening after delays in finalizing a script for the film.

During the call, Duaman also discussed Paramount’s development of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles live-action film, the next installment of Paranormal Activity and Transformers 4.
