Play Star Trek Online for Free, Starting Today!

That’s right, today’s the day a lot of curious Trekkie-gamers have been waiting for. Star Trek Online, the popular MMORPG goes free-to-play, starting today, Tuesday, January 17th.

You can now download the game free at the official Star Trek Online website.

After Perfect World acquired Cryptic Studios back in August, it was first announced in September that the game would eventually go to a free-to-play model.

Star Trek Online’s free-to-play launch has arrived! That’s right, you can PLAY NOW for FREE. For the first time ever on a truly massive scale, you take the Captain’s Chair and command your own ship and crew. Explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations, and boldly go in this expanding vast universe. Download the game HERE and PLAY NOW.

To play for free, players must first register on the Perfect World website. If you’re already registered, you can proceed directly to the Star Trek Online download page and begin creating your character.

The blog Massively is holding a special online event throughout the day to welcome new and veteran captains to the game.
