‘City On The Edge Of Forever’ Audiobook Successfully Crowdfunded

One of Star Trek’s most-popular episodes, “The City on the Edge of Forever” is getting re-made as an audiobook — in celebration of the series’ 50th anniversary.

On Friday, the campaign to bring an audiobook version of Harlan Ellison’s “The City on the Edge of Forever” was successfully funded. The campaign surpassed its original goal and raised over $20,000 through the crowdfunding website Kickstarter. Originally presented as the final episode of the series’ first season, the story follows the crew of the Enterprise and their encounter with the Guardian of Forever.

Written by Harlan Ellison, the episode was ranked by TV Guide as #68 in their “100 Most Memorable Moments in TV History” and has won a Hugo Award in 1968 for the “Best Dramatic Presentation”. The audiobook will contain Ellison’s original teleplay and not the one that was filmed for Star Trek.

Emmy and Grammy Award winner LeVar Burton, who played Lt. Cmdr. Geordie La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation, along with John Rubinstein, Scott Brick and Jean Smart have been cast as voice actors for the book.

The original treatment has previously been released in hardcover, softcover and e-book format.
