STAR TREK: DISCOVERY Adds Three Klingons

CBS has officially announced three new Star Trek: Discovery cast members. Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo have all been cast as Klingons in Star Trek’s upcoming return to television.

Chris Obi

According to StarTrek.com, Obi will play T’Kuvma, a Klingon leader who seeks to unite the Klingons. He has previously appeared in State of Play, Doctor Who, Snow White and the Huntsman.

Shazad Latif

Latif will play Kol, a Klingon commanding officer and protégé of T’Kuvma. He has previously appeared in Mission Impossible 5, Black Mirror, The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Penny Dreadful.

Mary Chieffo

Chieffo has been cast as L’Rell, the battle deck commander of the Klingon ship. Her credits include Natural Disasters, Girls!, Girls!, Girls! and Miss Dial.

The trio join the already announced Michelle Yeoh, Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp.

The first episode of Star Trek: Discovery will premiere with a broadcast TV special on CBS in May. That episode and all subsequent episodes will be exclusively shown in the U.S. on the video streaming service CBS All Access.

Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller and Rod Roddenberry have also been announced as executive producers, with Nicholas Meyer (director of The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country and co-writer of The Voyage Home) and Kirsten Beyer serving as a writers and consulting producers. Stepping in for Bryan Fuller as co-showrunners are Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts.
