Convention Report: Creation’s Official Star Trek Convention in Phoenix, Arizona

This past weekend Creation Entertainment brought their Official Star Trek Convention to the Sheraton Crescent hotel in Phoenix, AZ for what the billed as a smaller and more intimate convention experience.

The company that has been the driving force behind Star Trek and other pop culture conventions for over 35 years set the stage in style to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the pop culture phenomenon.

The convention was filled with the usual Creation music videos and the mandatory blooper reels as well as the auction and trivia contests.

The small but enthusiastic audience relished the quality time with actors such as Casey Biggs, Vaughn Armstrong, Arman Shimerman, Max Grodencheck, Gwynette Walsh, J.G. Hertzler, and Robert O’Reily and it was great to see the Quark family reunion.

Many of the actors answered questions and signed autographs for a fee, a personal highlight was watching Biggs and Armstrong perform Star Trek inspired music for the audience.

There was a Klingon breakfast and some nice social events, along with a great makeup segment featuring a Klingon makeup transformation on stage.

Richard Arnold, who served as assistant to Gene Roddenberry, hosted the show and a segment asking fans what they hoped to see in the next Star Trek film.

The dealers room was smaller than expected and lacked in the variety I’ve come to expect from Creation events. This was by far the smallest Creation show I’ve attended.

A few of the fans I spoke with commented that they hadn’t heard about the show until just a few days prior and mentioned a lack of media exposure. Others told me they heard about it on local radio and from the Creation website.

That all being said, Creation ran a first class show and I look forward to their upcoming events.
