‘STAR TREK 3’ Needs A Director, Fans Want To #BringInRiker

Following last week’s news of Roberto Orci’s departure from the next Star Trek film, fans worldwide have started a grassroots social media campaign urging Paramount to bring in Jonathan Frakes to fill the vacant director’s chair.

Frakes, best known for playing Commander William T. Riker in the Star Trek: The Next Generation television series and subsequent films, is a seasoned director, with decades of experience in both film and television. Some of his feature film and TV directing credits include Star Trek: First Contact, Star Trek: Insurrection, Clockstopers, Thunderbirds, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, Roswell, Leverage, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Burn Notice.

Frakes pulls double duty on the set of ‘Star Trek: First Contact’

The #BringInRiker campaign has been trending on Twitter throughout the weekend and a Facebook page has been set up in hopes to bring one of Star Trek’s most familiar faces back into the fold.

Currently, the name I’m hearing heavily circulated within the industry is Edgar Wright, best known for directing Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End. However, at this point, no official decision from Paramount has been made public.

Would you like to see Frakes take the helm of the Star Trek film franchise? Tell us in the comments below.
