Star Trek: Discovery Casts The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green In Lead Role
Sonequa Martin-Green has been cast as the lead character “Number One” in Star Trek: Discovery. She will play the lieutenant commander on the USS Discovery when the show launches on CBS All Access next spring.
Martin-Green is best known for her roles as Sasha Williams in AMC’s The Walking Dead and as Tamara in ABC’s Once Upon a Time.
She joins already announced castmembers Doug Jones, Anthony Rapp and Michelle Yeoh.
According to EW, Martin-Green will continue as a series regular on The Walking Dead, in addition to her starring role on Discovery.
Earlier this week, Chris Obi, Shazad Latif and Mary Chieffo were all announced as playing Klingons on the new series.
The first episode of Star Trek: Discovery will premiere with a broadcast TV special on CBS in May. That episode and all subsequent episodes will be exclusively shown in the U.S. on the video streaming service CBS All Access.
Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Fuller and Rod Roddenberry have also been announced as executive producers, with Nicholas Meyer (director of The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country and co-writer of The Voyage Home) and Kirsten Beyer serving as a writers and consulting producers. Stepping in for Bryan Fuller as co-showrunners are Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts.
