WATCH: Star Trek: The Motion Picture Recut With Daft Punk’s Tron: Legacy Score

No, that headline isn’t a mistake.

One wouldn’t assume Star Trek and the French electronic music duo Daft Punk belong together in the same sentence, but like Spock said, “there are always possibilities.”

In this case, Vimeo user Patrick Collins created a 22-minute recut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture using Daft Punk’s original motion picture score for Tron: Legacy. The result is a surprisingly fitting video, with plodding electronic music that matches the darker, slower-paced mood of The Motion Picture.

“I always thought the two film’s scores were very reminiscent of one another and I wanted to use that to give this recut a more updated feel while still maintaining some aspect of the pacing and staging of the original (very long) film and its big special effect scenes,” said Collins in his video post.
