WATCH: JJ Abrams Confirms Interest in Del Toro for Star Trek Sequel

While it’s been rumored for weeks, it has yet to be confirmed that Benicio del Toro was in the running for the role of the main villain of the Star Trek sequel.

Until today.

In a recent interview with MTV News, Star Trek Director, J.J. Abrams shed some light on the possibility of a role for Del Toro in the film.

“Well, we’re just in negotiations, we’re in discussions. It’s not even negotiations—just in discussion. But I would love to work with him. I’ve wanted to work with him for years, and this felt like a good opportunity.” Abrams told MTV.

He wouldn’t comment on what the role would be, but many suspect Del Toro could potentially play the ultimate Trek villain, Khan Noonien Singh.

“It’s too early to talk about what the role is, but he’s such an amazing actor. He’s so versatile. He could sort of do anything.”

“Except play Uhura. I wouldn’t buy that.” he joked.

“As soon as we know who it’s going to be — and I’d love it to be him — that’ll be public knowledge,” he said.

Not sure what to think of this new but I believe I just saw JJ as a bit part, delivery boy in” Regarding Henry” with Harrison Ford.   Didn’t care to do anymore investigating but it sure looked like him.
