They won’t make much. Only from rich trekkies or those who don’t spend it on anthing else

I was shocked to see the retail price at $129. Even the $91 Amazon price is too high in my opinion. But matters are even worse for me. I live in Tokyo and Star Trek DVD sets have traditionally been $250+ in Japan.
In checking Amazon Japan I found that this is indeed the case again, only worse. The retail price for the TNG Season One Blu-ray here in Japan is ¥26,460 which converts to $333 US! This will be the price in most stores. Amazon Japan discounts that to ¥19,224 or $242 US.
It’s too bad. I was planning to buy the sets but given that I already have the DVD sets it is really difficult to justify (even if I had $242 to drop on each season). The Next Level sampler was priced the same as the US.
I’ve felt from the beginning that CBS had to remaster TNG (and the later series) in order to maintain viability for syndication as networks will soon stop accepting SD content. (We never see SD content in Japan anymore, and haven’t for several years now. This will be the same in the US within a few years.) The money is well spent by the studio for this purpose. Sales of Blu-ray are a secondary reason for the project as I see it. I had thought they’d price them more in line with box sets of other TV shows in today’s market. They could make a lot of money selling these sets for $59. But they won’t sell many at this price.

Seriously, this seems extremely overpriced for what TV seasons are going for these days on Blu-ray. Comparatively, a season of BSG on Blu is currently $19.99 on Amazon.

As big of a Star Trek fan as I am, I won’t be buying it at this price point.
