BREAKING: Simon Pegg to Co-Write STAR TREK 3

Simon Pegg to Co-Write STAR TREK 3

Simon Pegg, who has played the new “Scotty” in the 2009 Star Trek reboot and Star Trek Into Darkness, has been tapped to co-write STAR TREK 3.

No stranger to screenwriting, Pegg will co-write the film with Doug Jung — the creator of the TNT series Dark Blue.

Pegg’s writing credits include the Edgar Wright-directed Cornetto trilogy of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End and co-writing Run Fat Boy Run.

Directed by Justin Lin, STAR TREK 3 is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2016 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise.

Now that is great news. Pegg’s a great writer, he’s fun-AND a geek in the best possible way, but most of all loves Trek- attributes to making a film with a glint in it’s eye, but a true Trek. Get started, Mr. Pegg- time’s flying! Can’t wait.

Time’s a-wastin’. A summer 2016 release means that they need to start principal photography this spring. And that means the script needs to be locked down by spring. And that means Simon has to deliver a finished script in about 2 months. Max.

Good choice. Paramount can’t release a “downer” Trek film to celebrate the 50th anniversary. I feared that one of the major characters would be killed off for drama’s sake (cough Spock cough). But no. It has to be happier, with some of the joie de vivre, romance, and thoughtfulness of TOS.
