BREAKING: Nichelle Nichols Suffers Stroke [Updated]

Happy Birthday, Nichelle Nichols!
Happy Birthday, Nichelle Nichols!

Star Trek’s original Lt. Uhura, Nichelle Nichols, suffered a stroke on Wednesday night, according to the 82-year-old actresses’ Facebook page.

Official statement from Zach McGinnis of Galactic Productions, LLC:

Last night while at her home in LA, Nichelle Nichols suffered from a mild stroke. She is currently undergoing testing to determine how severe the stroke was. Please keep her in your thoughts.

We here at TrekNews.net join the legions of Star Trek fans in wishing Nichols a speedy recovery.

Update #1

Nichelle Nichols has had both a CAT scan and an MRI today. The CAT scan came back negative and we are awaiting the results from the MRI. Currently she is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations. Her right side has shown minor signs or mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralyses.

We greatly appreciate all of the love and support her fans are showing at this time.

Update #2

The MRI showed that Nichelle Nichols had a MINOR stroke. She will start therapy this morning to evaluate how much damage was done, and try to determine her chances for a full or partial recovery. The therapists will test her hand at writing and legs to see if she can stand and walk on her own. Last night Nichelle remained alert, and cheerful.

When we told her about the love and support coming in from around the world she smiled and asked to see the posts on her facebook.

Thank you again for all of your kind words. Keep them coming because Nichelle is reading them.

Feel free to post your pictures with Nichelle and a story about when you met her.

Stay tuned for more information on this developing story.

Rick, praying you find Christ because what you said is Satan talking

Its frightening that people like you still exist and aren’t locked up in an asylum somewhere. God does NOT exist, Satan does not exist, and nobody needs to “find christ” or “get saved”. thats YOUR delusion, not ours.

I really hope Ms.Nichols make a full and speedy recovery. An intelligent, insightful and classy lady. I absolutely adore her.

As for praying, this is perhaps not the right forum/thread to be discussing religious theology. However, as an atheist and “recovered catholic”, I can certainly understand how heavy duty indoctrination works.

I had the whole “loving”, yet vengeful god – obey him or face eternal damnation routine rammed down my throat from an extremely young age. Sunday School, the whole works.

It took me the first twenty years of my life to pull my mind out that fearful cesspit of catholic guilt tripping – literally policing my own thoughts. I was eventually able to use critical thinking and logic to slowly make the journey to clarity.

So, while Bill Sargent’s beliefs may seem extreme and produce incredulity to the free thinking mind, it’s worth considering the powerful hold of childhood indoctrination. We don’t know the backgrounds of anonymous posters here.

I don’t he meant his comment to be scornful or malicious, it seems he was reacting “kindly” based on his belief system – as is his right.

It really is extremely difficult to “get over it” if you come from a deeply religious family, and I should know! I regard myself as one of the lucky ones.

            LLAP to all!

What I said was logical, what you say should put you into a mental institution.

It does nothing for those who have little faith.

it does nothing who have alot of faith too. It’s called narcissistic delusions of grandeur to think you have the power to bend reality.
