Rainn Wilson Added To Star Trek: Discovery Cast As Harry Mudd

Rainn Wilson has joined the cast of Star Trek: Discovery and will play a familiar role to longtime Star Trek fans, as Harry Mudd.

The con artist Harcourt Fenton “Harry” Mudd first appeared in The Original Series episode “Mudd’s Women” and later in “I, Mudd” and in The Animated Series episode “Mudd’s Passion”. Mudd was originally played by Roger C. Carmel.

Wilson is best known for his role as Dwight Schrute on NBC’s The Office. He has also appeared in Six Feet Under, Numb3rs, Entourage, Galaxy Quest, and House of 1000 Corpses.

Cast members already announced for the next installment of Star Trek on TV include Jason Isaacs (Captain Lorca), Michelle Yeoh (Captain Georgiou), Chris Obi (T’Kuvma), Sonequa Martin-Green (Lt. Cmdr Rainsford), Doug Jones (Lt. Saru), James Frain (Sarek), and Shazad Latif (Kol), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Stamets), Sam Vartholomeos (Ensign Connor), Mary Wiseman (Cadet Tilly), and Mary Chieffo (L’Rell).

Star Trek: Discovery is currently shooting in Toronto and will most-likely premier later this fall.

Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Heather Kadin and Alex Kurtzman are executive producers on the series. Nicholas Meyer and Kirsten Beyer are serving as a writers and consulting producers.

    Not a fan of this. i said it before i’ll say it again.This series should not be recasting historic figures like Mudd and Sarek of Vulcan. If the people cast for these parts do a poor job it’s gonna kill the series.

      You are right… When they recast young Vito Corleone with Robert De Niro in Godfather Part II, it was a bad idea…

      I disagree. I think it’s a great idea because it will give new life to old characters. Personally, I would have offered the part to Jack Black but I’m sure Rainn Wilson will be fine. (Maybe Jack can play Cyrano Jones…)

    Dont worry my friends. At the end of every episode, the Discovery will blare some kind of frequency of Beastie Boys and destroy all opposition… And I agree, You can not recast old characters unless everyone understands they are not connected. The actors doing so would have to be mind blowingly entertaining. Good Luck Discovery. You sure have enough of us with expectations so low we would watch a half an episode and give up on this effort then and there.
