With Star Trek: Discovery set to premier in two months, the much anticipated panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con was a bevy of new information about the series’ characters and plot.
Please be aware that some spoilers are included below.

Rainn Wilson, who will play Harry Mudd on the show, served as the emcee for the event.

Michael Burnham is Spock’s adoptive sister
The biggest revelation came from series star Sonequa Martin-Green, who said that Burnham is Spock’s adoptive sister. When asked why we’ve never heard about her before, Executive Producer Alex Kurtzman said,”We’re aware. You’ll see where it’s going, but we are staying consistent with canon.”

Canon came up a number of times on the panel, with Kurtzman giving a glimpse into the writer’s room on the show.

Anthony Rapp, who plays Lt. Stamet’s, also chimed in on the matter, speaking highly of the passion of all those involved.
“I promise you that we passionately believe in what we are doing. We want to do something meaningful & honor what came before.” said Rapp.
Rapp talks importance of playing Star Trek’s first openly gay character on TV
Later, Rapp spoke about the importance of playing an openly gay charcter, and announced that actor Wilson Cruz will play Stamets’ love interest. “I play the first openly gay character in the history of TV Star Trek. I’m very proud of that & he’s a scientist.” Rapp said.
This points to the show’s devotion towards diversity, with Martin-Green explaing how its at the core of the franchise.
“If you say you love the legacy of Star Trek but don’t love [our diversity], you missed it.” said Martin Green.

One of the funnier parts of the panel came when Doug Jones demonstrated how is character, Lt. Saru, walks. He later explained that Saru is 6’8″ and has hooves for feet.

Klingons will speak… Klingon
Despite seeing a Klingon speaking english in the newest trailer, Producer Gretchen Berg explained that Klingon’s on the show will be speaking their native tongue and subtitles will be shown.

Jeff Russo will compose the music for Star Trek: Discovery
Producers announced that Jeff Russo will serve as Discovery‘s composer. He has already completed Discovery theme and producers have developed the title sequence. Russo most recently served as the composer on FX’s Fargo.
Executive Producer Akiva Goldsman, who talked about being a fan of the original show watching reruns in the 70s, discussed they’re approach for the show.

The first season will be a complete arc
Lastly, producers revealed that the show is being treated as one season-long arc.

New Discovery poster debuts
Second Star Trek: Discovery trailer premieres at SDCC
Discovery‘s 15-episode first season will premiere on September 24 at 8:30 PM ET on CBS. Immediately following the first episode’s release, the second episode will be available on CBS All Access, with subsequent episodes released on Sundays. The first eight episodes will run from September 24 through November 5, with the series returning in January 2018.
The cast of Star Trek: Discovery includes Michelle Yeoh (Captain Philippa Georgiou) Jason Isaacs (Captain Gabriel Lorca), Sonequa Martin-Green (First Officer Michael Burnham), Chris Obi (T’Kuvma), Doug Jones (Lt. Saru), James Frain(Sarek), and Shazad Latif (Kol), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Stamets), Sam Vartholomeos (Ensign Connor), Mary Wiseman (Cadet Tilly), Mary Chieffo (L’Rell) and Rainn Wilson (Harry Mudd).
Gretchen Berg, Aaron Harberts, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth, Heather Kadin and Alex Kurtzman are executive producers on the series. Nicholas Meyer, Kirsten Beyer and Ted Sullivan are serving as a writers and consulting producers.

Every single thing that comes out of the mouths of the writers, producers, and showrunners of STD reveal how little they know or care about Trek. And that just makes me sad.

Sorry to say but that second trailer did nothing but turn me off. If i want to see fifteen episodes of war and violence and hate i’ll watch one of the cable news networks.A season long story about a war is not gonna work out well. Star Trek fans watch it for escapism not reality. We don’t want war and violence we want strange new worlds and cultures. We Don’t want to boldly go some place just to blow stuff up.I swear it’s like the producers and writers have never seen an episode. This trailer was like it was for some kinda Shoot’em UP sci fi show that ripped off the name star trek.

Dude. DS9 did a war in REAL TIME. The Dominion War was like 3 seasons. DS9 had a lot of violence and conflict. Every Trek series has violence and conflict, some more than others, but even the Original Series had it.

Conflict is one thing,War is another. Conflict is Bones and Jim arguing cause Jim is pushing a crew member to hard after the kid freaks out cause a giant alien ship is blocking their way. War is mass Death and Destruction.War is the worst of human nature.After sixteen years of war in the middle east people are tried of it. They want something that gives hope for the future. And yes while ToS and TNG had a space battle every now and then. the violence in episodes was few and far between.And even then it was all ways a last resort. This trailer makes it look like all this series will be about is War and bloodshed. Like i said if i want to see that i’ll just turn on one of the cable news networks.And that will turn most long time fans off not all but a lot. Between the war and those god awful JJ style lighting effects
