Filming Wraps on First Season of Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek: Discovery executive producer Aaron Halberts announced on Wednesday night on Twitter that filming had been completed for the first season of the series.

The show began filming at Pinewood Studios in Toronto back in January of 2016. The first season of Discovery will be comprised of 15 episodes — the first half (currently airing) will run through November 5th, with the series returning in January 2018.

CBS CEO Says There’s a Lot Riding On Discovery

Leslie Moonves, the chairman and chief executive officer of CBS recently spoke to Bloomberg about Star Trek: Discovery and its future.

“Looking at the future of CBS, streaming and OTT (over-the-top) is a very important part of it,” he said. “There’s real upside for our company to have All Access be successful. There’s a lot riding on Star Trek.”

Last week, the Star Trek: Discovery cast and crew took part in a panel and press conference during New York Comic Con. During which, Michelle Yeoh revealed that we have not seen the last of her character, Captain Philippa Georgiou, on the series.

Sorry but to be blunt but unless a lot changes with the characters of Discovery. i don’t know if people would be willing to pay to subscribe for another season of Discovery. The effect are top notch. The make up for the aliens is awesome. But the characters of the Captain and crew itself stink to put it mildly. Discovery is a ship full of nozzles.(You have no idea how bad i wanted to use a more vulgar word there). The story telling done by the cast is good it’s just that the story feels to dark and bleak. Star Trek has all ways been about a hopeful future this makes it feel like there is no hope.

I am loving the series, but I think reviewing it now is like doing a review of a 15 chapter book after you have only read the first 4 chapters. I think, and I am hoping when we get to the end and see the whole picture it would have been one heck of a journey, and some clever story telling.
I was a little sceptical if they could have pulled off Enterprise season 3, but they did and I think we are on a similar journey.

I enjoyed the Xindi Story arc of enterprise season three. i like that it was a long form story. The difference here is that we all ready knew the crew of The Enterprise NX-01 when it started. We are meeting just meeting this captain and crew. And they come off as a bunch of D**ches. Lorca acts like a Sociopath. Burnham is a bi polar who doesn’t know if shes an over emotional spoiled brat. Or an emotionless soulless Di*k. I could go on but you get my point unless these characters change a lot i don’t know how many subscribers are gonna want to stick around till after the hiatus ends in January.

we are all, 2 adults, 3 kids, enjoying it thoroughly. we all have different opinions on what burnham did in the pilot, but we all like her and understand why she has so many defensive walls up. we find lorca fascinating and creepy at the same time, i think he is going to have one hell of a backstory that will explain how he became so obsessively driven. we like stamets and get his frustration at having his research co-opted, we like tilly unreservedly – the kids see echoes of their own social ineptness there and really enjoy it, and saru is a joy to watch. i think the 2 main klingon characters will undergo their own arc – at least one of them will come to accept the federation and that will be interesting to see. and we haven’t even really met the doctor, mudd, or the other member of the crew. i like that the story is being told of how the federation came to be the federation we know, how they got through the difficult beginnings and reached that. it’s very interesting, well-acted, written, the music, costumes, sets.. are beautifully and carefully done. we are hoping that somehow giorgiou (and i know i am not spelling that correctly) will escape from the mirror universe and stay on..

The show has barely began, the payoff will no doubt be at the end of the season…there’s definitly hope…we all know what happens nearly 10 years later….things will get better…

Glad I went to a couple of cons for the 50th Anniversary, because Star Trek is dead. I didn’t realize I was attending memorials. This show stinks. Everytime I look at the Klingons I think of Nosferatu. I don’t like any of the Federation characters. They are evil. No wonder all 24 tribes of Klingons want to stop fighting each other to eradicate the vermin filled Federation. The world is a depressing place today. What we don’t need, especially from something with the tag “Star Trek,” is more pain rammed down our throats. Gene Roddenberry is spinning in his grave I’m sure. Last night my family and friends, most life long Trek fans decided to give up on Star Trek. The vision is dead.

Discovery is awful. It’s just plain awful. Dark, dystopia, and reprehensible.
