Both Hollywood and the Internet are buzzing with the rumors that Paramount is pushing for JJ Abrams next installment in the Star Trek franchise to be in 3-D. Reportedly, Abrams would consider 3-D if the movie calls for it.
British Actor, Simon Pegg, who plays Scotty chimed in and said, “As far as I know, no” and added, “I mean.. it depends. Maybe.”
Pegg went on to say:
“When something’s made to be in 3D, if it somehow part of the experience, fair enough. I’ve done 3D movies. Tintin is amazing. That is going to be in 3D and that is going to be amazing. Sometimes, it’s like if you see a movie that doesn’t necessarily lend itself to 3D, like perhaps something live action or that isn’t built for 3D, it’s more like they’re worried about it. 3D can sometimes be a vote of no-confidence.”
Another contributing factor is the fact that George Lucas is re-releasing the Star Wars films in 3D, beginning with Episode I in February 2012.
According to What’s Playing, the film is locked for September 2011 to begin production.

In 2011 I think 3D is inevitable for these big budget summer action flicks. If you don’t like it, go see it in a non 3d theater.

I’m all for 3D and would love to see a Star Trek film in 3D but only as long as it’s actually *shot* in 3D. I’m not a fan of the whole 2D->3D conversion thing.

having a star trek movie in 3D would just take away from the star trek feel. Let George Lucas re-release star wars in 3D but NOT Star Trek.
Even to this day i still watch Star Trek the motion picture for alot of reasons, 1 of them being of how it was filmed back then, it really had the star trek feel. having a movie in 3D i think will really take away from the feel that all past movies and series has given to the fans.

While I don’t LOVE 3D, I don’t necessarily hate it either. I like the idea of having the choice to go see a movie in 2D or 3D. I wanted to see Avatar in 3D, but I chose to watch Clash of the Titans in 2D. I don’t know, there’s just something nice about having a choice.
But yes. If you’re going to show it in 3D, shoot in 3D.

I am certain that the movie will be good whether or not it is in 3D.

Itâs no longer a secret that Paramount wants the movie to be delivered to audiences in 3D, there’s one lingering question: will it be shot in 3D or converted in post-production? 80% of the 3D movies are a waste and are not justified.
Other than Avatar…I can’t think of one other that was better because of 3D
