LeVar Burton Confirms TNG is Coming to Blu-Ray in HD

In news that will surely have Star Trek: The Next Generation fans excited, it looks as though CBS is indeed moving forward with the conversion of at least a portion of the series to high-definition.

As we reported in July, CBS is working on a four episode sampler disc, to see how the episodes would look in HD and how costly it would be to remaster the audio and video.

On Friday, LeVar Burton all but confirmed that TNG is being converted to hi-definition for Blu-Ray release. On Twitter, Burton said “Stopped by to see how the TNG conversion to HD for Blue Ray was coming along… #mindblown” along with a photo of the front gate of CBS Television City in Los Angeles.

While I don’t believe this completely confirms that the entire seven seasons will be re-released in HD on Blu-Ray, it does validate previous reports of the sampler disc, which is a step in the right direction.

According to a report on Digital Bits, the Blu-Ray sampler disc will contain “Encounter at Farpoint”, along with three other episodes.

We’ll of course keep you updated on any news related to TNG’s conversion to HD, as news becomes available.

Awesome news! I’ve been waiting for this since I got my blurry player 2 years ago. Can you imagine how great it’s going to be to watch Best of Both Worlds in HD? Ahh. It’s going to be great!

The TOS sets were over $100 when they originally came out in HD a few years ago. I can only imagine how much these are going to be. :/
