Speculation that JJ Abrams would return to direct the sequel to his 2009 Star Trek film have been running rampant in recent months. Hollywood insiders and fans alike assumed he would return. However, Abrams wouldn’t completely commit to the project.
Until today.
In news first confirmed by New York Magazine‘s Vulture, pre-production for the film is currently underway with the script scheduled to be complete by the end of September and filming to begin this winter.
The 2009 film’s stars, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, John Cho are all set to return as well.

Great news, but I’ll see this movie if : Scott Bakula makes an appearance as Admiral Archer, Leonard Nimoy comes back as Spock Prime and if there’s less Spuhura (Spock/Uhura : yes, that HEAVY thing!) and more McCoy/Kirk/Spock
