Unfortunately, it looks like William Shatner will not be attending the funeral for his Star Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy.
On Saturday, Shatner tweeted that because of a previous commitment at a Red Cross charity event in Florida on Saturday night, he won’t be able to make it to Nimoy’s Sunday memorial in California.
I am currently in FL as I agreed to appear at the Red Cross Ball tonight. Leonard's funeral is tomorrow. I can't make it back in time.

This is complete crap. No ball, no contract, no commitment, no anything can excuse the absence. Either Shat is unwanted, or The Shat does not want. Court of public opinion is going to flay alive him, the red Cross, or more likely both. I don’t buy this “Can’t make it back” shit. Nope. No way. That’s why God made planes. And trains. And transporters. Be real, here, this is a calculated PR-reasoned excuse to cover something else. His not attending for the reason given is heinous.

Priceline showed several flights available between the ball and the funeral. I guess he has never heard of priceline?

You are clearly ignoring several things… What time does the Red Cross event end? If it is VERY late at night, it might indeed be too late for him to catch a flight… and a cross-continental red-eye is exhausting for a YOUNG man, let alone one of Shatner’s advanced age. Also, a commitment is a commitment… it would be unthinkable to back out of his commitment to the Red Cross on such short notice, no matter WHAT the reason.

Would, Leonard Nimoy want Shatner to miss a charity event for the living to be at an event for the dead? I doubt it. Funerals are for the surviving, not for the dead. William Shatner deserves to mourn in his own way.

Agreed completely. I am not a “William Shatner right or wrong” fan, but the grief he’s gotten over this is ludicrous and, as Spock would say, “highly illogical.”

I think Leonard Nimoy of all people would understand: The needs of the many outweighs the needs of the few, or the one.
