How To Unlock The Secret Vulcan Salute Emoji In iOS 8.3

On Wednesday, Apple released update 8.3 for iOS devices. One of the updates includes new emoji icons, including a Vulcan salute emoji. Approved as a new Unicode symbol in 2014, the new emoji is now visible to users on iOS 8.3 and OS X 10.10.3 — although, you can’t pick it from the the character sheet just yet.

While there’s no word on when Apple will officially include the Spock emoji, you can start using it now by following the steps below.

  • Open this Tweet on your iPhone
  • Copy the Vulcan salute emoji
  • Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts > +
  • Paste the Vulcan salute emoji into the Phrase section
  • Create a shortcut
  • Enjoy!
