Leonard Nimoy’s Daughter Planning COPD Documentary

Julie Nimoy and David Knight Launch Documentary Project: “COPD: Highly Illogical – A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy”

Julie Nimoy, daughter of Leonard Nimoy and her husband David Knight are planning a documentary dedicated to the “Star Trek” actor called, “COPD: Highly Illogical – A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy.”

Diagnosed with COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) in 2013, Nimoy died due to complications related to the disease in February.

With a focus on shedding light on COPD and its effects, the film promises to educate viewers through Nimoy’s and others personal stories and give information on the latest advancements in treatment.

“Generations of science fiction fans know my father Leonard Nimoy as his iconic character, Mr. Spock on the starship Enterprise. His message, ‘Live Long and Prosper’ has resonated through the generations and became a siren call for those of like mind.” Julie Nimoy said of her father on the crowdfunding website First Giving. “The documentary will educate viewers about COPD through Leonard’s and others personal stories of courage as well as the latest information about treatments and the quest for a cure.”

With a goal of $500,000, the project has already raised 40%, as of this writing, due in part to a large contribution by the Novartis Pharmaceutical Group.

COPD: Highly Illogical – A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy

A New Documentary by Julie Nimoy and David Knight

Julie Nimoy, daughter of Leonard Nimoy and her husband David Knight invite you to play a role in a true labor of love.

Generations of science fiction fans know my father Leonard Nimoy as his iconic character, Mr. Spock on the starship Enterprise. His message, “Live Long and Prosper” has resonated through the generations and became a siren call for those of like mind.

After Dad’s untimely passing due to complications related to COPD, my husband and I committed ourselves to continuing his message through a very special project– a documentary dedicated to him called, COPD: Highly Illogical – A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy.

Diagnosed with COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, in 2013, Leonard took to social and traditional media to bring this common, but often undiagnosed disease, to light. In his last interviews and through Twitter, he reached out to educate his fans, openly discussing COPD, which affects as many as 30 million Americans.

COPD is a complex and often insidious disease and it caught up with the universe’s favorite Vulcan. His Twitter messages, which ended with his familiar LLAP – “Live Long and Prosper” – focused on encouraging people to quit smoking and highlighting his struggles with COPD.

COPD: Highly Illogical – A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy is our way to continue his mission. The documentary will educate viewers about COPD through Leonard’s and others personal stories of courage as well as the latest information about treatments and the quest for a cure.

We invite you to support this meaningful project. Please join us and shed light on COPD – a disease that affects so many people we know and love.

Thanks so much, David and Julie for doing this to honor “Spock” and help the 15 million in the US who have been diagnosed with COPD and the equal number that are currently undiagnosed but suffering from it. This is such a tremendous legacy!

I was diagnosed with severe COPD in 1995, due to smoking, second-hand smoke, and other causes. My life was saved by a double lung transplant in 2011. There is a prevailing reluctance for COPD patients to reveal their disease , due to embarrassment, ego, or personal lack of knowledge. Leonard Nimoy displayed a great deal of courage in using his fame to help spread awareness about this insidious, progressive, incurable disease. Thanks, Julie and David!

I recently lost my momma to C.O.P.D. June 26th, 2015. Five days b4 her 68th birthday. I lost my best friend & it hurts!!! Watching her at home struggling is a nightmare. I helped my dad care for her. We took shifts making sure she had her pain medication. To keep her comfortable.
C.O.P.D. is the 3rd leading killer. It’s not just a smoker’s disease. Second hand smoke, Genetics, Chemicals, Environmental are also included. Not all of us are immune to this horrible disease. Currently there are millions that haven’t been diagnosed yet. This disease is unpredictable. Like my momma. She was doing well. Able to cook. Coming over to my house with dad. Doing the dishes. Little things like that. Then BAM things went bad.

HOW I GOT CURED FROM CHRONIC OBSTRUCTIVE PULMONARY DISEASE
I really find this to be one of the absolute best stem cell blogs on the internet. It’s helped me educate myself on stem cells and the current state of the industry. When my father was diagnosed with COPD we really ran out of options. I came across this site and researched as much as possible and then searched for stem cell treatment centers that treat COPD. I immediately ruled out non-domestic treatment centers and contacted DR.ABEGBUHEALER@GMAIL.COM that uses adult adipose stem cells to treat COPD. I took the plunge with my father and thank God every day that I did. After the treatment, he was completely taken off of oxygen and has no need to get back on. He’s doing great, no more oxygen tanks whatsoever. He is no longer winded from going room to room. He has tons of energy due to being able to sleep at night. He’s a new man. Again, thank you for helping to educate me on stem cells, otherwise I would not have known to seek out treatment for my father. ( DR.ABEGBUHEALER@GMAIL.COM )

Are the funds from this going to go towards research on a cure? I was really shocked that a family member / child of Leonard Nimoy would have a “good fund me” to make this. Mr. Nimoy was always a class act….I also so wish he would have started his anti smoking stance when he first got diagnosed, or when he quit smoking, that would have made a gigantic difference in many lives. But, I do hope that those who are involved with this tribute give the money made to help cure COPD, in his honor, It would not be logical to not do so.
