STAR TREK BEYOND Is Getting A New Cast Member, Reshooting Scenes

Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond is set for release in just a few months, but today comes news that scenes from the film are being reshot and a new cast member is being added.

Deadline is reporting that 63-year old actress Shohreh Aghdashloo (24, Grimm) has joined the latest installment in the rebooted Star Trek film series. She will play the role of the High Command of the Federation.

Aghdashloo — who has recently been seen on SyFy’s The Expanse — is the first Iranian woman to win an Emmy Award, which she garnered for her work on the HBO film House of Saddam in 2009.

I have never seen anything Shohreh Aghdashloo is in, but I am glad an Iranian woman will have a prominent role in Star Trek. A commander and chief of Starfleet would be awesome, Federation president even more so. I relish the fact that many more women have been brought in for this film such as Sofia Boutella, Lydia Wilson, Melissa Roxburgh, Priya Rajaratnam, Ashley Edner, and many more according to IMDB. Star Trek has indeed tried over the years but for the most part, still felt like a “mans world.” From TOS through DS9 having one maybe two women on the command staff. VOY and ENT were a little more progressive, but still lacking. As a 32 year old caucasian hetero male from Canada (a cultural mosaic of a country) I would like a 50/50 ratio of men and women, some LGBT characters, more people of East Indian, Arab, Iranian, South Pacific people from Indonesia, The Philippines, Oceanic peoples like the Polynesians, Indigenous North, Central, South American decent, Star Trek has always been about inclusion, but 50 years later, it needs to be more so and take it to the next level…like max it out. Take it to level 11 when the highest says 10.

If you want to see her in something, she was in an ep of L&O: SVU entitled “Dirty”. She’s quite an actress.

This late in the game and they are still trying to figure out the script and reshooting scenes. This isn’t shaping up to a very good movie at all.

Actually reshoots or pickups are common this late in the game.

        Yep, reshoots are extremely common.

However, I guess this news will be the proverbial manna from heaven for the persistent “it’s not “real” Trek” brigade who’ve been berating this movie from the second it was officially sanctioned.

I mean, let’s not let pesky facts get in the way of a good pre-emptive bitch and moan shall we.

I am scared that this will be the final Abramsverse film. However, there will be new films eventually..
