Two Possible Star Trek TV Series Titles Registered

Two Possible Star Trek TV Series Titles Registered

Things are gearing up behind the scenes regarding the multiple Star Trek TV shows reportedly in development. And to add fuel to the fire of rabid fan speculation, two new titles have been registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office – which is to say, they are possible titles for two of the new shows.

One of the titles is Star Trek: Reliant, and the other is Star Trek: Destiny.

Die-hard fans will immediately recognize Reliant as the name of Khan’s stolen Federation ship from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. This title just fuels previous speculation about a rumored television series focused on Khan, helmed by Star Trek II director Nicholas Meyer. While it would be great to see a well-done series about arguably Star Trek’s best villain, check out our op-ed piece about why that might not be such a good idea.

The other title, Destiny, is a fairly generic name, but it should be noted that it is also the title of a trilogy of post-Nemesis novels by author David Mack. But while that trilogy is quite good, it’s hard to see a TV show based on it (the book also stars various characters and locations from all across the Star Trek timeline). We’ll just have to wait and see.

And in case you’ve been stuck in a transporter buffer for the past few weeks, Patrick Stewart recently announced he is returning to his famous character, Jean-Luc Picard, although no details were provided as to what his series might be, or when it will air.

Ugh no more stuff set in the past. Come on! The new Picard series is a step in the right direction. Fans want things set farther into the future of the star trek universe not in the past.Seriously with that huge writing staff at CBS and Paramount how is it all they can turn out are reboots or prequels.

I have to vote for the forward-looking time line shows too.

Going back in time and rewritting history is just a cheap Hollywood style “safe” bet, too gimmicky.

I recall when the first rumors of new Star Trek shows, one of them mentioned a series revolving around the Ceti Alpha 5 and the Reliant’s survivors. This could be it, but a Star Trek survival series? One thing for sure, it would be nice to solve this long unanswered mystery.

Destiny? One of the other rumored shows was an Animated Star Trek, so a title like Destiny does fit the naming conventions of an Animated Series. And is possible the Destiny series could work as an Animated Anthology similar to the first Clone Wars series (not the CGI one), and it’s possible the various Treks can voice act. ‘

However animation following can be fickle. If the Destiny novels and this Destiny title is one and the same, and if this is the animation project, it might be too high brow for most viewers and will not mesh well. But then again I could be wrong.

So you’re all jumping straight on “USS Reliant- the ship from Star Trek II” and not “USS Reliant- the ship that was the first command of Picard the person who we know will be in a TV series”?

I’m still really hoping this will be a series about Picard as a retired Captain, running the family vinyard in France and gettng up to japes with his neighbour (played by David Jason) who was a childhood freind but has never left Earth. It’ll be like a cross between Last of the Summer Wine and Darling Buds of May, Most episodes would end with Picard sliding down a hill in an old tin bath. That would be the best Star Trek ever.

On a serious note, the novels Star Trek: Destiny were fantastic, I’d love to see small screen telling of that tale.
